Brighten up your outdoor events with this contemporary patchwork picnic quilt. Instructions for adding a simple strap closure are also included. Use this strap to secure the rolled quilt (rolling instructions are included!) for storage and easy carrying.
This quilt can be made using fat quarters, precut strips or scraps. Fat quarter and precut strip versions use time-saving strip piecing.
Fabric and Supplies
For patchwork blocks, choose one of the following:
12 fat quarters
1 roll of 40 precut 2 1/2" strips
500 scrap squares 2 1/2” x 2 1/2", plus additional scraps for patchwork strap
You will also need:
2 1/4 yards neutral solid fabric for sashing
2 1/4 yards contrasting solid fabric for blocks
4 3/4 yards denim, home-dec-weight or other fabric for quilt back
79” x 79” low-loft batting
3/4 yard fabric for binding
5” of 2” wide hook and loop tape (e.g. Velcro) for strap
Yardage requirements contemplate fabric that is at least 42” wide.
